What’s SHIKISAI?

The brand | SHIKISAI Alternative T-shirts

SHIKISAI Alternative T-shirts | JAPAN is a t-shirt project lauched by Japanese Product-designers-duo Noto Fusai, that tries to incorporate the 3-dimensional aspects in T-shirts design, which had conventionally thought to be in a territory of graphic design.

After its sensational debut at Design Tide 2006 (Tokyo), it had exhibitions in many different opportunities, for example: NYIGF (New York), Top Drawer (London), solo show in Singapore.

It didn’t take so long before their simple & playful attitude, trying to treat t-shirts as 3D objects, attracted people from all over the world without words.

Consequently, museum shops like V&A Museum (London), Gugghenheim Museum (NY) and Hara Contemporary Art Museum (Tokyo) became the representing stockists of SHIKISAI T-shirts.

The designer | Noto Fusai

“Noto” is their last name. “Fu” means husband. “Sai” means wife. All together, Noto-Fusai stands for “Mr. and Mrs. Noto”.

” We are always interested in pushing forward the frontier of civilization and in sharing this joyous moment when the conventional value was shaken. ”

In 2011, Noto Fusai left Tokyo, moved to a small village in the mountains of western Japan, and dug out 200-year-old folk house. There, with small children and an old dog, they started to push forward another frontier.
